The Sloan Built process.

Sloan Built implements renovations and extensions in four stages.

This approach has been designed to deliver a thorough, seamless, and integrated process that delivers maximum results and value for money.

In stage one, agreed visions and goals for both the design and budget will be established.

This will then progress to a schematic design in the form of plans, elevations, and 3D renders.

2. The plan

The planning stage builds on the design goals outlined in stage one and maps out a step-by-step approach to how this will be achieved. Some key deliverables during this stage are:

  • A complete set of documentation
  • Town planning applications
  • Heritage Victoria applications
  • Building permit
  • Detailed budget
  • Detailed timeline
  • Third party agreements
  • Risk management plan

Sloan Built understands how to achieve any required approvals and have developed excellent relationships with local council and other authorities in this regard. Most importantly, we are thorough in our approach. Nothing is left to chance as we develop an extensive risk management plan, capturing anything that may affect the budget and delivery throughout construction. These items are raised, considered and worked-through in the planning stage to allow for seamless delivery. Items may include:

  • Site safety
  • Buildability issues
  • Long lead-time items
  • Potential budget issues
  • Unresolved design details
  • Any potential environmental impacts.

Following this assessment, actions are developed and tailored to mitigate any potential risks.

These may include:

  • Pre-ordering of long lead-time items
  • Engagement of specialised designers or structural engineers to work through
  • Detailing
  • KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)

3. The build

A lot of the hard work has been completed prior to the build stage. With comprehensive planning and design, the build stage is the final step in bringing those plans to life.

In stage two we develop industry-standard agreements with subcontractors and in stage three we engage them in line with those agreements. We hold regular trade meetings with all parties involved in the build to ensure timelines are being met and the project plan is on track.

Some key deliverables in stage three may include:

  • Trade engagement
  • Site mobilisation
  • Material procurement
  • Construction from commencement to completion.

Sloan Built hosts meetings with sub-contractors on a weekly basis to manage all aspects of the project and site visits can be arranged with clients at key stages throughout the build. We aim to conduct regular progress meetings with our clients, either in person or online, to provide a forum to raise any concerns or request changes. Our risk management process also includes Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) for quality assurance.

This is implemented throughout the construction to ensure a stage/task is completed correctly prior to moving onto the next step in the sequence. Our eye for detail has been developed over the past 40 years which allows us to conduct detailed quality inspections and make any required adjustments.

4. The support

The art of consolidation is to seek feedback throughout the build, refine as needed and continue this process after the build stage.

Sloan Built delivers projects free of defects and at the completion of works a certificate of occupancy will be issued to clients.
